The Internet Filter: understand Internet censorship through LatAm’s eyes

The right of every citizen to seek, receive and share information is protected both in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). As regards Latin American countries specifically, the American Convention on Human Rights lays down rules on censorship in article 13. Similarly, the Tunis Agenda also recognizes these rights within the Information Society.

Patentes de software: incentivo ou arma contra a competição?

Um artigo publicado no início desta semana pela New York Times (“The patent, used as a sword”) retomou a discussão sobre o desvirtuamento  do sistema de patentes de software nos EUA. Nesse país o patenteamento de programas de computador é permitido, ao contrário do Brasil, onde o software é protegido por direitos autorais e a obtenção de patente é vedada em lei. O tema tem ganhado crescente visibilidade em todo o mundo dado o envolvimento de gigantes da indústria em disputas judiciais.
